The Reliability of the H3A Hummer
- Some Hummer H3As may experience failure of one or both front axle seals. Usually, the problem can be identified by leaking gear oil. The front axle seals mostly affect 2006 models.
- Some Hummer H3As were recalled in 2010 for faulty attachment of the vehicles' hood louvers. These parts could detach from the Hummer when driving, causing possible damage and injury to any automobile or person nearby.
- As of January 2011, it can cost about $15 for parts and $98 for labor to repair one front axle seal. If both seals need to be replaced, the cost jumps up to $30 for parts and $130 for labor. Regarding the hood problem, authorized dealers can apply an adhesive to secure the louver free of charge.
