    Resetting a User Account Password

    • 1). Log on to your computer using an administrator account.

    • 2). Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."

    • 3). Select "User Accounts" and then select "Change an account."

    • 4). Click the account you would like to change and then select "Create/Change the Password."

    • 5). Change and save the new password.

    Resetting the Administrator Password

    • 1). Restart your computer. Click "Start" and then click "Restart."

    • 2). Press "F8" as your computer reboots. Windows takes you to the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.

    • 3). Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and then press "Enter." Your computer will boot into safe mode. Safe mode is a simplified version of Windows XP used to troubleshoot computer problems.

    • 4). Click "Start" and then select "Run."

    • 5). Type "control userpasswords2" into the run dialog box and then click "OK."

    • 6). Select the Users tab and click the account that needs a password reset. Click "Reset Password."

    • 7). Type in a new password into the New Password box and then verify your new password by repeating it into the Confirm New Password box. Click "OK."

    • 8). Restart your computer and attempt to log on to Windows XP.
