Learning About the Market Town of Stockton-on-Tees

In North East of England you will find the market town known as Stockton-on-Tees.
A town that has been around for quite a while as many in the United Kingdom.
It is on the higher ground near the northern part of the Tees River.
The market in town is shown to have begun back in 1310.
It was at that time that a charter would be granted the market would be held Wednesday or each week.
The location of Stockton castle has switched hands many times in the past.
First being mentioned in 1376, the castle would be occupied by Scots from 1646 after they captured it in 1644.
It would be destroyed due to the orders of Oliver Cromwell that was once the Civil War ended.
Standing where the castle once was is a shopping center currently.
The public park was built on land that originally was given to the people by Major Robert Ropner in 1890.
It has since been refurbished into a lovely location that includes many fun things.
This location is large in industries that deal in chemicals, steel, and ship repair.
There has been a great deal of work in the area in making it a better place to live.
Not only that but they are focusing on making the environment better too.
One of these ways is through the Stockton-Middlesbrough Initiative, helping to make the area a nicer place for all.
It is a project that will take around 20 years overall to complete, but it is very good.
What about some of the famous people who've come from this area? How about Brass Crosby who is the Lord Mayor of London.
Or Charles Foulkes a Canadian general, even Tony Scott who is the brother of famous person Ridely Scott.
A location that is wonderful to visit, and one that is working to make life a bit better.
