Effective Time and Activity of Fly Control Applicable Outdoor

Effective outdoor fly control can greatly reduce indoor infestations by reducing the number of flies surrounding a structure, thereby preventing entry. The flying insects encountered in rural and farm premises can be of many types, but it is generally accepted that those which are regarded as pests are those which spread disease through contamination, or cause physical damage and general nuisance.

Because flies feed on garbage and feces, they transmit diseases, so you should do all you can to keep their population to a minimum.Dump standing water: drill holes in old tires, clean your gutters, don't pile grass clippings, keep the trash can covered, dump and replace water in birdbaths and wading pools weekly.

Flies are attracted to any strong smell; if you eliminate the odors, you'll drastically reduce the fly population outside your home.

Pick up dog feces. Make sure you put it in sealable bags before you put it in the trash can.
Keep garbage can lids tightly closed. If you are having a party, make sure the trash can being used for paper goods disposable has a tight fitting lid, and ask the guests to replace the lid after they dispose of their trash
Don't keep your compost pile too moist
Keep the compost pile as far from your house as possible
Maintain your compost pile properly. Keep it "cooking" so that it is too warm to support fly larvae.
If you want to give your backyard birds fruit treats, be sure to locate the fruit or peelings as far from your house as possible.
Flies love tall grass and piles of brush, so keep your shrubs trimmed and don't leave piles of cut grass, leaves or brush in your yard. They are attracted to moisture and standing water; keep the water in birdbaths fresh and don't allow buckets or other containers to fill up with rain water. You should discard old tires or any debris in your yard that can collect rain water.

Flies are deterred by the scents of some plants, so keep potted plants on your patio or near your doors that repel flies:

False indigo
Mint
Lavender
Elderberry
Basil
Flies landing on a structure treated with a surface pesticide labeled for flies will die long before they can get inside. In addition to fly control, comprehensive surface sprays also provide control over a broad range of insect pests including roaches, ants, and spiders. Application requires a one gallon hand sprayer.Hanging from a tree branch or hung in a window, doorway, or porch area, natural fly traps may be used in conjunction with fly baits and sprays, or as an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pesticides. In many instances, there are safer, non-toxic fly control alternatives that are as effective as their chemical-based counterparts.
