Rug Cleaning - Do it Yourself Treatments
Are you a proud owner of a Persian or Oriental rug? Looking for do-it-yourself rug cleaning treatments? On a trip to Asia a couple of years back, I found a unique rug that I immediately fell in love with.
I put it in my living room, so my guests can see it when they come over.
It goes without saying then, that time and again, someone would accidentally spill champagne, juice or food on my rug.
Looking for rug cleaning tips that are easy to follow? How do you take out coffee stains? Wine? Here is a list of stuff I discovered throughout the years: 1.
Beer spills - Mix ½ tsp.
of chlorine-free, dye-free dishwashing liquid into ½ a cup of cool water.
Apply the suds on the spill.
Leave for 5 minutes.
Rinse with clean, cool water.
Follow up with a solution of vinegar mixed with water.
Leave for 1 minute and blot with a clean cloth.
2.
Candle wax - Freeze the wax with ice then crack the wax into pieces.
Remove.
To remove the residue, please a clean cloth over the affected area of the rug and pass a hot iron over it.
3.
Chocolate/ Coffee - Mix ½ tsp.
laundry detergent into half a cup of cool water.
Apply the suds on the stain and leave for a couple of minutes.
Rinse with water.
Then, put 2 tablepoons ammonia into 1 cup of water.
Apply on affected area and leave for 1 minute.
Blot out.
If the stain still doesn't come out, apply vinegar (see vinegar solution in number 1).
4.
Wine - Follow all the procedures for coffee or chocolate stains (number 3).
After that, get a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, apply it on the stain and leave for 2 minutes.
Rinse with water and blot out with a clean towel.
These do-it-yourself rug cleaning treatments will leave your rug looking clean and new.
Good luck!
