Comedy and Their Approaches
While education is taking over to settle a balanced approach towards entertainment as sense prevails, the fact remains that only a certain sector of the audience are growing with this approach. Thanks to the deteriorating value of content, repeated formula shows, sexist approach, furniture portrayals and emphasis on traditional, not so perfect ideas have saturated the Indian minds. In fact the Indian TV dramas are so taxing that they assure more tension and worries than some pure entertainment. While the channels claim to show a progressive approach, all of that gets lost in TRP wars and their still mentality. Sadly, the content creators and mediators haven't gotten over the trade secret of ‘Sell only what sells well.' resulting in lack of innovation in content. The little bit of difference too is the adapted version of reality showsfrom across the globe.
However, comedy TV channels are still respite from all that taxation. Channels like SAB TV have been getting an extremely positive response for shows like FIR, Taarak Mehta KaOoltahChashmah, and JEANIE AUR JUJU. The brighter side of these shows is their light heartedness and the absence of forceful portrayal of larger than life attitudes contrary to those in Indian TV drama on other GECs. Comedy TV shows like Comedy Nights with Kapil have also opened up to a very good response, becoming extremely popular with the audiences. On the other hand, the now scripted reality shows on TV are no hidden secret. Even in dance and music competitions, scripted drama, manipulations and ‘Karan Johar'semotional track' is added to build the air of drama, suspense and emotions to attract viewers, gain sympathy and benefit from its viewership.
It is not a very different story with the news media as well, as they sensationalize and misconstrue events a lot of times to gain a popular response. But is this the right way to grow for Indian TV still remains to be a very moral based question.
