    • 1). Create and send out pirate-themed invitations using phrases and words typical of a pirate. For example, the invitation could say, "Ahoy ye mateys! Join our crew while we plunder for treasure. Chart yer course for July 19th at 1 o'clock. Arrive in your best pirate garb or be prepared to walk the plank." If you send out paper invitations, age the paper by spilling tea on it and allowing it to dry. You can also burn the edges.

    • 2). Provide pirate accessories to your guests. You can find most accessories at your local costume or party store. To make your own eye patches, cut pieces of black felt and sew black elastic to the edges. You can provide hooks or hands, parrots for shoulders, hats and big hoop earrings as well.

    • 3). Bake a treasure map cake. Make a square or rectangular cake and cover the outside edges in light blue icing to make it look like water. Place the top of a cupcake on the corner of the cake and, using an icing tube, ice it green to create an island. Cover the rest of the cake in light brown frosting to look like sand. using red licorice cut into small strips, create a dotted line that leads to a red "X".

    • 4). Purchase plain wood chests at your local craft store and paint them to look like treasure chests. For a kids' party, allow them to paint their own treasure chest. Fill the chest with candy necklaces, ring suckers and gold chocolate coins.

    • 5). Have a scavenger hunt. Organize the scavenger hunt either inside or outdoors. You can create a scavenger hunt that uses word clues, written using pirate phrases as with the invitations. You can also create a treasure map for each participant or group of participants and have them scavenge for various clues that will ultimately lead them to the pirates' booty.
