Leather Crafts Using Lacing

    • Leather working can be a rewarding craft. With leather laces you can fashion a number of things that are useful and/or simply fun accessories. With talent, you might even sell these items or create unique gifts for others. There are numerous things you can make using leather laces of a variety of thicknesses.

    Belts

    • Using leather laces, you can string together conchos and make Native American-inspired concho belts. The process is simple, requiring only that you thread the conchos on the belt. Conchos are silver or gold disks, designed to slide along the leather laces so you can have as many or as few conchos as you want, with the leather strips showing between. Then add on a belt buckle and your belt is finished. As well, you can tie several laces onto a buckle and then proceed to make your belt by braiding or weaving the leather together.

    Jewelry

    • Using thinner leather laces and beads, you can create necklaces. On them, you can string shells, glass beads or metal-toned beads. You can string on many beads or just one. Or hang a pendant from a leather cord. As with the belts, you can take multiple strands and braid them together, creating a leather choker.

    Lanyards

    • Use leather laces to create lanyards by weaving/braiding the leather. You can use the same four-strand weave for a lanyard using leather laces as you can using plastic laces. Or you can learn more complicated weaves and, with practice, learn to make things like bull whips. However, if the weave isn't tight enough, the whip will come apart on cracking.
