Ever since the beginning of time, men have tried to keep track of time. One of the earliest clocks was the sun dial which used shadows and the position of the sun to keep a record of time. Once clocks were invented, time became much easier to measure. A popular shape for a clock is a square and there are many designs available for square clocks. - Perhaps the most eye catching part of any clock is its hands. They move around the clock face with such precision that it can be easy to lose yourself watching them tick. A mirror clock can reflect these hands and create an interesting looking clock. They are also stylish and will compliment the look of just about any room. Take a small square mirror and use a jig saw to carefully cut a small hole in the center. The hole should be big enough to fit your clock hands. Paint numbers onto your clock using black paint. Use another clock face to help you gauge how far each hand should move. Glue a half inch thick piece of wood to the back of your mirror. Screw some small hangers on the back to hang it on your wall. Attach your clock mechanism to the back of the clock. The clock hands will be placed on the clock mechanism after it is attached. Clock mechanisms can be found at most hardware stores and used in any DYI designs. Adjust it so that the top is at 12 and the bottom at 6.
- One of the most common decorations in any house is pictures. Most houses will have dozens of pictures hanging on the walls, all detailing their personal lives. Combine pictures and clocks with a nice picture clock. Take a light piece of wood and cut it into a square shape. It should be the size of the photo you wish to use. Cut your picture into a square shape and glue it to the front of the wood. Cut a hole in the center big enough to fit your clock hands. Laminate the front of the picture with hand held laminate in order to keep it fresh looking and to avoid wear and tear from the elements. Paint numbers at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions on the clock. This will avoid painting too many numbers on your picture, though you may paint all the numbers if you like.
