A New CEO From the Cloud Computing Department
After years of being the head of the cloud computing department of Microsoft, Satya Nadella has been promoted to become the company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO). She is just the third CEO of the Microsoft Company after 38 years of existence ever since it was founded by no other than Bill Gates. However, in spite being replaced as the CEO of company, Bill Gates is still inside the company and still holds a board position.
In the past years, Bill Gates has been inside the company still helping its employees develop their products in order for the company to compete with companies such as Apple, Google, and Amazon which have been very keen in reaching out to the public. These companies have thrived in the mobile industry and that is the direction that Microsoft is aiming for.
Satya Nadella, during her tenure, promises to follow one philosophy and that is a mobile first and cloud first world. So far, only the latter part of that philosophy has been fulfilled, which comes as no surprise. The CEO of the company ha been under the cloud computing department of the company for the majority of his tenure in Microsoft, it is only natural that he becomes an expert in cloud.
In spite the lack of progress in the mobile aspect of the company, Bill Gates believe that the experience that Nadella has in cloud computing will help propel the company towards a better outing in the mobile industry. Bill Gates said in his message for the appointment of the new CEO that there may be a challenge with the mobile aspect of the company, but he sees an opportunity to excel in it with the help of cloud and that is why Nadella became the unanimous choice for the position of CEO.
Other candidates for the position of new Microsoft CEO included, CEO of Ford Alan Mulally, Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft Kevin Turner and former head of Skype Tony Bates.
The decision of the board to choose Nadella was based on her background which they saw as sufficient to lead the company into the new age. John Thompson was assigned to replace Nadella as chairman and he was one of the many people who led the search for a new Chief Operating Officer.
In addition, leading the cloud computing department to good results was another consideration that led the board into choosing Nadella. In fact, he was able to double the customer sales during his tenure as the head of the cloud computing department.
Of course, doubts always follow new ownership and analysts have been hoping that Nadella does not disappoint by carrying over the momentum that the company has been able to ride so far. Furthermore, they are hoping new things in the company that will help in the improvement of its operations which they are praying will translate into sales.
Holding such a high position in a company who is trying to compete in a very competitive market is going to be hard - pressure, and a transition - but Nadella is not afraid. With the help of those under her and most especially Bill Gates, he is confident that they will be able to make it.
