How to Change the Instrument Cluster Light Bulbs on a 1997 Ford Escort
- 1). Locate the screws holding the dash panel in place. The screws will be located next to the steering wheel. Loosen the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 2). Pull the panel off once the screws are removed. This will give you access to the instrument panel.
- 3). Loosen the screws around the instrument panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The panel will be accessible after the screws are removed.
- 4). Slide out the panel to access the back of the panel. Do not pull out too far as there are wires connected to it.
- 5). Locate the bulb wires attached to the back of the panel. They will be the two-strand wires connected to a socket.
- 6). Twist the socket counter-clockwise and pull the socket out. This will expose the bulb.
- 7). Pull the bulb out of the socket with your fingers. Insert the new bulb.
- 8). Screw the socket back in to the back of the instrument panel. Change any other bad bulbs.
- 9). Position the instrument panel back to the dash. Tighten the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Attach the trim panels to their proper locations. Tighten the screws to secure the panel in place. - 11
Turn the lights on to ensure the cluster lights are working properly.
