How to Clean an Overcooked Cast Iron Pot
- 1). Boil one quart of water in the overcooked cast iron pot.
- 2). Add two tablespoons of baking soda to the water and boil for five minutes.
- 3). Pour the water and baking soda into the sink.
- 4). Scrub the overcooked spots on the cast iron pot with a plastic scrub pad. If the spots and stains still remain, repeat Steps 1 to 4.
- 5). Rinse the cast iron pot thoroughly when all overcooked stains and food have been removed. Towel dry the pot.
- 6). Season the pot. Heat the oven to 250 to 300 degrees. Lightly coat the pot with bacon grease or lard. Peanut oil may also be used. Place the pot in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove the pot and pour any excess grease out. Place the pot back in the oven for two hours to complete the seasoning.
