    • 1). Place the ring in a location that is safe for starting a fire, away from any flammable debris on the ground, such as dried leaves. Outdoor ring stands can be found in home improvement stores, as they are often used as a support for glass table tops, as well as for fire pits.

    • 2). Place the metal bowl into the ring, so that the ring is encircling the outside of the bowl, and the bowl is facing up. When purchasing your bowl, select a bowl that has a diameter equal to the diameter of the ring stand at approximately 1/3 of the way down from the rim of the bowl. This will ensure the bowl is too big to slip through, but sits deep enough it will not rock and fall over.

    • 3). Build a pyramid of charcoal briquettes in the bottom of the bowl.

    • 4). Squirt lighter fluid over the briquettes so that all the briquettes have lighter fluid on them.

    • 5). Light the briquettes with a match or lighter in multiple spots at the base of the pyramid.

    • 6). Spread the charcoals with a non-flammable stick when all of the briquettes have turned white on the outside.

    • 7). Place the grate atop the bowl, and place the food to be cooked on the grate. Metal grating can be purchased at a home improvement store, and should be slightly larger than the diameter of the bowl, so it sits atop the bowl with minimum extra material hanging over the edge.
