There are many reasons why a person could be at risk if they have never towed anything before.
A person might be moving to another state and needs to attach a trailer to carry their accoutrements, or perhaps someone needs to tow a boat they just purchased.
In another situation a person may need to tow a car behind an RV for a cross-country road trip.
Whatever the towing need may be, there are risks involved in amateur towing.
So novice towers everywhere, beware of these risks and keep them in mind when preparing to tow anything, anywhere in the country.
These towing risks may seem obvious, but these are important reminders on what typically goes wrong in novice towing situations.
By being reminded of these risks, we can take more precaution when out on the road.
You can never be too safe when towing anything around the city! The most common risks we see are incorrect and mismatched equipment, speeding and accelerating, braking and tuning.
More common risks involve mal-conditioned equipment, limited visibility/lack of vision, using cars that are not rated for towing, tire pressure and blown tires, transporting not leveled and unbalanced loads.
The most obvious risks, however, are potentially damaging the car or trailer being towed and swaying on the road.
This can cause many unfortunate accidents.
If a trailer sways into other lanes of traffic, it can result in side swiping other vehicles, and potentially running them off the road.
If you are ever involved in a minor accident, the best choice is to contact a roadside assistance company, unless you are seriously injured, in which case you should call 911.
A roadside assistance company can at least help relocate your damaged vehicle to a safer spot on the road.
