The Fairies and the Queen of LaJu
Once upon a time in a land far away beneath a tree overgrown with green ivy, there lived two tiny fairies.
One was a girl named Kachew and the other a boy named Da Neu.
They were the smallest of all the fairies.
Their tiny wings were the size of butterfly wings and they could fly so fast one could barely see them at all.
Fairies live in many places.
Some live in gardens, some in old abandoned houses, some under mushrooms and some amid big rocks near the water.
A fairy might be a gnome like creature, an elf, pixie, or nature spirits.
They seldom communicate with humans.
In rare cases people invite them into their homes for company but most would rather they live elsewhere because of their curiosity and mischievous nature.
Kachew and Da Neu had been invited to visit the queen of LeJu.
She had given them a very important task.
It was so secret they could tell no one.
If anyone discovered what the task was they might steal their ideas and keep it for themselves.
Far worse if they were not able to complete this task the queen might remain barren for life and never invite them into her castle again.
Now this important task was one not to be taken lightly by any means.
You see the tiny fairies had to devise a plan for the queen.
The queen had prayed for years to have a baby but her prayers had not been answered.
Seeing the fairies outside in the garden she decided to ask them to help her.
She knew fairies had magical powers and she was fascinated by their beauty.
Now the barren queen of LeJu was a very fastidious woman.
Everything had to be just perfect and no one was to be told not even her husband the king.
Once the fairies were in her private chambers she began to discuss the matter in detail.
Tears spilled from her eyes as she told them how lonely she was and her desire to have a baby.
Nothing in the world would please her more and she would give anything to have one.
Feeling very sorry for the lonely queen they agreed to help her.
They told her of their plan to weave a very special blanket and of the magic powers they would use.
She smiled, her eyes widening with joy for at last she had a measure of hope.
Kachew and DaNue decided to find the most beautiful flowers in the land with the sweetest aroma.
Once they picked the flowers they would weave all the silky petals together.
They would then ask all the white rabbits to comb their coats really well and give them the finest hair.
Then they would weave the white rabbit's hair into the beautiful petals of all the flowers to make a soft luxurious blanket for the queen.
It was to be a blanket like no other blanket and would be placed upon the queen's enormous bed.
The fairies would then come every night and sprinkle magic fairy dust upon the blanket while the queen was sleeping.
If the queen slept under the blanket for seven days she would become pregnant and bare a child for the king.
The fairies told the queen of their plan to weave this special blanket and of its magical power.
They were convinced once she slept under this beautiful blanket spread upon her bed she would conceive and bare a child for the king.
However she must sleep under the blanket for the seven days and she was not to tell anyone about the blanket, not even her husband the king.
It was her job to convince the king to sleep with her under this blanket without him knowing of the plan or where the blanket came from.
The king was desperate for his wife to have a son or daughter as well.
So desperate was he that he called all the wizards, elves, gnomes, pixies and sorcerers into his private chambers.
He instructed them to find a magical way for his wife to have a child.
It could be a potion, a spell, or any magical thing.
They could use whatever means necessary to accomplish this task but not one hair upon the queen's head was to be harmed.
The one who accomplished the task in the shortest period of time would be given a room in the palace for the remainder of their lives.
They would have all the privileges of royalty.
The ones who could not complete the task would be banned from the land forever.
Now the queen did not know her husband had called a meeting as well.
The king had not told her for fear the magic might not work and she would become more depressed.
He did not want to grieve the queen further for she might become so ill she could die.
He could not bare the thoughts of having his beautiful queen sad or worse to die.
He would be alone forever! This could not be! So everyone was given their orders and left the castle to find a magical cure whereby the queen might have a child.
All the wizards went one way, the elves and pixies another, and the gnomes hid beneath the garden plants.
Each one flew secretly to a place only they knew of to begin working on the task order by the king.
Each was afraid the others would sneak into their camps and steal their plans.
None wanted to be banned from the land for it had long been their home.
The wizards made a plan to use their magic wands and call for a special seed.
They would take the special seen and put it in the queens drink.
Once she drank the tiny seed it would sprout and become a baby.
The elves made a plan to sneak into a nearby village and steal a baby of another woman.
They would put the newborn in the queen's bed late at night while she was sleeping.
The sorcerers decided to take all the most powerful herbs of the earth.
They would make a potion and give to the queen and king to increase their fertility.
The queen would become pregnant and bare a child for the king.
The gnomes decided to make a special perfume for the queen and put inside the bottle a magic stone.
When she used the perfume her body would emit strong pheromones which would cause her to conceive and bare a child.
Everyone was busy finding all the necessary items to make their plan work.
No one spoke a word lest strange ears might hear and tell.
Now the fairies fluttered about all over the kingdom picking the most beautiful of flowers.
Only the flowers that had an enchanting fragrances where chosen.
They had to be perfect! The silky petals were quickly sewn together.
Next they visited all the white rabbits to get the softest hair possible.
All they needed was a magic thread to sew it all together.
They thought and thought! Finally they asked the big black spider to spin a web of thread that was strong enough to sew the blanket.
They gave the spider one hundred flies all packed neatly in a purple glass jar as pay for the thread.
So the task was now well underway.
Now one must never trust a black spider with any secret.
He had a reputation all over the land for not keeping his word.
As nosey as the spider was, he hung from the trees over the fairies trees amid all the green ivy and listened to their every word.
His eyes watched as they used his silk thread to sew the blanket together.
"I wonder what is going on with these fairies.
" He mumbled to himself.
""It must be something really important for them to gather all these beautiful petals and the snow-white rabbit hair.
" Perhaps I should seek the help of the bees.
Maybe they can find out what is going on here, he thought scratching his back with his hind legs.
So with this he called for a meeting of all the bees.
He had to find out what was going on.
If the bees couldn't find out then perhaps the ants could.
Try as he could he could not find out what was going on.
There was silence everywhere.
No one was talking.
So becoming desperate to find out what was going on, the spider spun a web around the two fairies while they were sleeping.
His strong web quickly bound them both together so they could not move.
"You tell me why you are making this blanket or I will leave you hear to die!" He commanded.
"You have no need for such a large blanket so who are you making it for?" He asked quite arrogantly.
"We are making it for the queen".
Kachew whimpered pushing and pulling the silk thread trying to free her hands.
"She needs a new blanket for her bed.
If you loved the queen as much as we do you would help us.
" "I will send word to the queen that you have halted the progress of the blanket and she will have you fed to the black birds!" DaNeu gasped.
"You are an evil spider and we should have never purchased thread from you.
" Now the spider knew the fairies had a special alarm sound and could call for help from all the other fairies so he decided to let the fairies go.
After all he really didn't want to be food for the birds.
Days went by.
All the wizards finished their plans as well as the elves.
The sorcerers made their potions and were ready to deliver it all to the king.
The gnomes filled a red bottle with their special perfume dropping a magic stone inside.
Tightly they screwed the lid on making sure none of the precious liquid spilled out.
Each group prayed their plan would work in the shortest period of time.
No one could be sure their plan would work and all stomachs were tied in knots waiting to see what would happen.
Each night the fairies crept into the queens chambers and sprinkled their magical power.
They watched over the king and queen as they slept under the beautiful warm blanket.
The gnomes put the red bottle on the queen's night table.
The wizards put their potions into the queen's drink.
The sorcerers put their potion into the king and queens food.
The elves were searching everywhere for a newborn baby.
Each one hoped and prayed their work would produce a child for the queen.
It was the seventh day and the last night for the fairies to sprinkle their magic powder.
They sat outside the window of the queen's castle and waited nervously.
Then it happened! The black spider had creped into the queen's room and was sitting on her silk pillow.
His tail was filled with the most poisonous venom in the land.
"I don't care what is going on here but I will be the one to live in this castle forever.
It is my silk thread that holds this blanket together.
I will win this task or I will destroy the queen.
If I don't win, then no one will win!" He spouted out angrily.
"You have cheated me out of my precious thread for only a bottle of flies.
Now it is my turn to rule and reign!" His evil eyes turned red with anger.
"Tonight while she lies sleeping I will fill her body with my poison and the king as well.
" The fairies were startled at the spider's actions.
"How can you be so mean? Don't you know without the king and queen we will have no home at all.
All she wanted was to have a child and everyone is doing all we can to help except you.
I hope your tail falls off and you starved to death!" Kachew yelled loudly.
"I'm sounding the alarm right now.
The queen will have her child and you black spider will die!" Within moments fairies were everywhere.
They filled the queen's bedroom each one dumping sticky honey all over the spider.
His legs could not move.
He was caught in a mess of gluey white stuff and could not get out.
As soon as he was well stuck the fairies opened the window and a huge black bird flew inside.
He gave a quick flutter of his wings, snapped up the spider and flew away.
All the gnomes rejoiced.
They told the sorcerers and the sorcerers told the wizards who told everyone else.
Love filled the castle from top to bottom.
The queen became pregnant soon after.
She gave birth to a beautiful little girl with snow-white hair, lips like rose petals and eyes as blue as indigo.
The king was so happy he forgot to ban anyone from his kingdom and the queen asked all the fairies to keep watch over her baby forever.
She knew the fairies had more love than all the others and this was her way of repaying them.
Love is best when given away don't you know? Love still blooms in the land of LaJu to this very day!
