How to Collect Unemployment in Washington
- 1). Check to ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements for receiving unemployment compensation. Eligible applicants must be legally authorized to work, must have worked at least 680 hours in the current year, must have earned wages in the state of Washington and must be currently seeking suitable work. Prospective applicants should watch the video "Applying For Benefits" on the Washington Employment Security Department's website for a better understanding of the eligibility criteria and the benefits process. - 2). File an initial application for unemployment benefits. Complete this application online at the Washington Employment Security Department's website, by calling the Department at: 1-800-318-6022 or by requesting an application at your local WorkSource Office. A link to the online application is available in the Resources section. After filing your application, you will receive a determination notice from the Washington Employment Security Department stating whether the state approved your application and your weekly benefit amount.
- 3). Begin filing weekly claims the week after receiving your approval notice for benefits in order to continue receiving your benefits. File your weekly claim on the Washington Employment Security Department's website or by phone by calling 1-800-318-6022.
