How to Remove the 3.8 Power Steering Pump
- 1). Place a drain pan on the ground underneath the power steering pump of the 3.8 engine. The power steering pump should be on the passenger side of the engine in the front.
- 2). Set the parking brake and place a wood block behind one of the rear tires to prevent it from moving. Loosen the bolts on the power steering pump with a socket wrench just enough so you can remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
- 3). Take the belt off the pulley and loosen the lug nuts of the front passenger side tire with a tire tool one complete turn. Lift the vehicle up with a floor jack and place a jack stand under the axle next to the tire.
- 4). Lower the vehicle down onto the jack stand and move the floor jack out of the way. Remove the lug nuts with a tire tool and take the tire off the wheel hub.
- 5). Take the clamp off the power steering pressure hose at the bottom of the pump with a pair of pliers. Remove the hose from the pump and let the fluid run into the drain pan.
- 6). Unfasten the power steering return hose at the top of the pump with an open-end wrench. Remove the hose and allow the fluid to run into the drain pan.
- 7). Detach the power steering pump mounting bolts from the pump with a socket wrench. Take the pump off the 3.8 engine and remove it from the engine compartment.
