    • 1). Insert the tip of your case opener tool (available from any electronics store) in the seam between the front housing and back panel of the iPod.

    • 2). Work your way around the iPod until the two halves separate. Use your fingers to disconnect the orange ribbon cable that connects the two halves by its plug in the back half of the device.

    • 3). Lift the square hard drive out of the front half of the device and unplug the other orange ribbon cable that connects under the hard drive on the green motherboard.

    • 4). Lift the tab just under the hard drive to release the thick ribbon cable from the bottom of the hard drive and release it from the rest of the iPod. Set the hard drive aside.

    • 5). Lift the tab at the top of the motherboard and unplug the ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to the motherboard.

    • 6). Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the six screws on the sides of the front half of the iPod. These screws hold the iPod frame in place.

    • 7). Pull the frame gently away from the iPod. The motherboard is the only thing that is connected to it. Then lift the LCD screen out of the front panel of the device and your iPod is completely taken apart.
