How to Get Rid of White Flies on Tomato Plants
- 1). Isolate the infected plant from other, healthy tomato plants. White flies can quickly swarm and will move rapidly to another plant if you don't kill them quickly enough.
- 2). Pull on some gardening gloves, and remove as many of the flies as you can by hand. This is the fastest and least toxic way to remove white flies, and it keeps your tomato leaves dry, as wet leaves can lead to fungus growth.
- 3). Aim a garden hose at your tomato plant and blast the white flies off of it. Point the water at the underside of the leaves, which is where white flies like to hide. Drowning the adults is effective but does not kill the eggs. Do this on a hot day so that the tomato plant dries quickly.
- 4). Apply an insecticidal soap to the plant. Again, make sure to coat the undersides of the leaves. Insecticidal soaps work well to get rid of soft-bodied insects such as white flies, but not as well on beetles.
