    • 1). Research and purchase the model of vapor steamer which best meets the individual's commercial or home-based needs. Models offer varying amenities such as wet or dry steam production. Identify needed attachments for the chore which the vapor cleaner is to be most used.

    • 2). Clean and run a full tank of water through newly purchased vapor steamer in a well ventilated area once before home use. Set on lowest steam temperature and pressure settings if machine offers these in adjustable features. Locate it on a floor surface easily cleaned in case of unexpected leaks or overfill spills. Any stray debris, factory material residue or packing material that may have gotten into tubes or hoses on the vapor steamer will be removed avoiding unit damage.

    • 3). Fill the vapor steamer's water well now with appropriate amount of water or prepared solution. Do not overfill. Mix proper amounts of any cleaning or sanitizing solution into the water before adding into unit. Use high temperature dry vapor steamers without any additive solutions.

    • 4). Attach correct attachment such as drapery wand or upholstery brush if vapor steamer is a floor unit. Touch and grip only the temperature insulated hoses and steamer parts that do not display a high temperature area warning. Upright units commonly used for floor or carpet cleaning require careful movement to the cleaning area before turning unit on. Ensure no solution is leaking during transport.

    • 5). Turn on unit and follow specific how-to cleaning instructions included with the model of vapor steamer which has been purchased. Floor models with long arm attachments suggest maximum extension between the user and the item being cleaned as the high temperature vapor can burn if face or hands are too close. Upright units for carpet and floor cleaning suggest the safe practice of drawing the unit backwards across the floor towards the user so as to not walk on freshly steamed floor area.

    • 6). Allow the area or item freshly steamed by the vapor steamer to dry if a wet steamer was used. Dry steamers leave the item or area dry but internal temperatures can remain high for longer periods of time so caution should be used before touching or using immediately.

    • 7). Drain vapor steamer and all attachments thoroughly and allow the unit to open air dry before storing the unit. Check that all hoses are completely dry before carrying across carpet or hanging in a storage unit.
