The easy answer to where you can locate foreclosure listings free is the internet.
While this is not the only source, it is quite easy to search for websites that offer lists free.
You need to understand that foreclosures fall under public information and so should normally not be paid for.
The huge scramble for such listings has made some websites offer more personalized and extra services and charge a subscription fee for doing so.
Beware of some websites that would claim to be completely free but that will require that you register with your credit card details.
What many of them offer is a fixed period of trail membership usually five or seven days long.
Immediately, the trial period expires they cut off you free membership and automatically charge your card the subscription fee.
To take advantage of such free trail periods, be sure you cancel your registration before the trail period actually ends.
There is however some websites that actually offer fully free foreclosure listings.
Some of such would include real estate websites or the HUD website.
The HUD maintains a website with free listings of FHA foreclosed homes.
Like other foreclosures, they are priced well below their market value to enable the government to just recover the loan amount.
Some free foreclosure listing websites have an extensive database that allow you to search for listings via state or type of foreclosure such as HUD foreclosures, bank foreclosure etc.
Another good source for free listings is realtors.
When a home is put for foreclosure the lender gains possession.
The lender would usually want to sell it to recover their investment and would thus list it with a realtor to sell.
The realtor would have to include it to the main listing service so that other realtors can also see it.
If you can make contact with realtors, you can get free access to listings as they come up.
The clerk's office of the local county office also has updated lists of foreclosures in their county.
If you wish to get free access to listings in a particular county, you can simply just visit the clerk's office.
