Dermatitis comes in many different types and forms. Atopic dermatitis is actually the most common and is a chronic skin condition. Contact dermatitis is another form but it has a localized reaction to external substances and stimuli. Dandruff in infants is actually seborrheoic dermatitis and is another form of this condition. Small coin shaped regions of sin that is irritated is known as nummular dermatitis. Of course these are just a few of many different types of dermatitis.

Knowing that there are a number of different forms that this takes is good but what are the symptoms of dermatitis? Actually they may vary from person to person. Of course there are some common ones that will include having dry and red skin that either itches or burns. The first step in dermatitis is an intense itching. This may then lead to things like oozing lesions or blisters. Any part of the body may be affected by these symptoms. Some of the symptoms may only last a few hours of days as they are merely a reaction to something.

Once this condition has been diagnosed it is time for treatment. The most important thing with the treatment of this condition is that the itching stops so the condition does not worsen. The age of the person with the condition must be taken into account when it comes to treatment. One treatment is to keep the skin hydrated by using creams. Sometimes a change in lifestyle can stop this. A doctor might also prescribe anti-inflammatory creams.

While there is no cure for this condition you can prevent severe break outs. When you bath try using warm water and not hot water. Having a mild soap will also be a good idea. Skin irritants like certain perfumes and soaps should be avoided. Should you be doing something where your hands will be under water for a long time use protective gloves to shield them. Moisturizers should be applied frequently after washing.
