How to Replace the oil pan Gasket in a VW Jetta
- 1). Park yourr VW Jetta on a level surface and raise the front of the car with jacks. Support it with jackstands.
- 2). Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan with a socket wrench and drain the oil into a drain pan, allowing time for the oil to drain completely.
- 3). Clean off all of the old gasket and finish by wiping the surface with solvent and a clean rag. Rub a bit of oil on the surface to promote adhesion and attach the replacement gasket.
- 4). Reattach the oil pan, and secure the bolts in a crisscross pattern to 15 lbs., being sure not to overtighten.
- 5). Lower the car from the jackstand and refill the engine with fresh oil. Check with a dipstick to be sure that you add the right amount of oil to your Jetta.
- 6). Pour the old oil into an empty milk carton and take the oil to a garage or to a hazardous waste disposal facility.
