The Do's & Don'ts of Watering Plants
- Water plants when the first two inches of soil is dry. Check for moisture by sticking your index finger into the soil, down to the first knuckle. Do not water the plant if your finger is wet.
- Leave a saucer or catch basin under the plant to catch excess water when you water the plants. Do not leave the saucer under the plant between waterings. The soil will absorb the water back into the pot and drown the roots.
- Use only room temperature pure water for the plants. Cold water causes leaf spots. Do not use water that contains fluoride or sodium because both elements will kill plants.
