How to Kill Black String Aquarium Algae With Bleach
- 1). Remove all decorative items and rocks that have algae growing on them.
- 2). Fill the sink or a tub with an equal amount of water and bleach. Place items in the solution for a few minutes or until the algae turn white, indicating the algae are dead.
- 3). Scrub items with a soft-bristled brush to remove all algae, then place them back into the aquarium.
- 4). Add algaecide to the aquarium water according to instructions on the bottle. Algaecide can be found at pet and fish supply stores.
- 5). Reduce the amount of light to six hours a day to discourage algae growth.
