    • 1). Evaluate your experience and make a list of all of your key job-related qualifications and strengths. Focus on your professional life, not your personal life. Tailor the list to the job opening you are applying for.

    • 2). Choose power words (verbs and adjectives) that best describe you. Examples may include "determined, decisive, accomplished, arranged, cultivated, evaluated" and so on. Search the Web for "resume power words" to get a feel for the choices and what best describes you professionally (see Resources).

    • 3). Use the power words you have chosen to write a one or two sentence introduction that summarizes you as a professional. For example, "Determined customer service professional with 10 years of experience in both retail and phone sales." Be confident and bold, as this is your opportunity to catch the employer's attention.

    • 4). Formulate several bullet points below your introduction. These should be short phrases, not full sentences. For example, "Cultivating numerous customer contacts that lead to sales exceeding company goals," or, "Evaluating customer satisfaction results." You may also briefly state your educational accomplishments in your profile. For example, "Bachelor's Degree in Business Management." Include no fewer than four but no more than eight bullet points depending on your formatting style.
