    • 1). Remove the cushions from the couch, if possible, and vacuum all surfaces and crevices thoroughly. Once you have remove most of the crumbs, attach an upholstery brush to the end of the vacuum wand and vacuum all exterior surfaces to remove dust and pet hair.

    • 2). Move the couch and the cushions to a garage or an outdoor location with good ventilation. Set the couch on a drop cloth. Lay the cushions on another drop cloth beside the couch with 1 foot of space between them.

    • 3). Put on safety glasses, a dust mask and disposable rubber gloves before proceeding with the painting. Remove the cap from a can of fabric spray paint and shake it up for 10 to 20 seconds.

    • 4). Hold the nozzle of the can 12 inches away from one of the cushions and press it down. Move your hand in a side to side pattern using long, even strokes to apply the paint. Overlap each row of paint by at least 1 to 2 inches so that that you don't miss any spots.

    • 5). Spray each of the remaining cushions on the couch in the same manner. Wait at least one to two hours and turn each cushion over and spray the opposite side.

    • 6). Move to the couch and spray the flat back of it first using the same motions that you used with the cushions. Move on to the sides and use the same side to side motions, but with shorter strokes. Paint the couch arms and back in the same manner but using vertical strokes when needed to paint crevices and awkward angles.

    • 7). Wait 72 hours after painting before reinstalling the cushions or moving the couch back indoors.
