How to Build a 12 Square Foot Wing
- 1). Obtain plans for the wing you want to build. If you do not already have plans, select the plan form of the wing you would like to make and draw it out using computer aided design software. Place your plans over a sheet of balsa wood and tack them down.
- 2). Cut out the ribs, spars and frames as necessary.
- 3). Glue the frames parts together as set out in your plans. Start by laying out the spars for the bottom of the wing and glue in the vertical ribs. Then glue in the top spars and leading edge.
- 4). Leave the wing overnight to dry. Sand down the rough edges until smooth. Use progressively finer sandpaper until the surfaces are smooth. Once the frame of the wing is complete, skin it either with additional balsa wood or fabric.
