Instructions for Planting Hybrid Salix

    • 1). Remove the Hybrid Salix tree from the plant pot and gently knock off the excess dirt from the tree's roots. Fill a 5-gallon bucket 3/4 full of water and place the tree's roots into the water. Allow the roots to soak for eight hours before planting.

    • 2). Choose a planting location that has exposure to full or partial sunlight since the Hybrid Salix will not grow in the shade. Ideally, the soil should be slightly wet since the tree likes to remain moist. Do not plant within 12 feet of a building or sidewalk since the tree's roots are aggressive and can damage structures.

    • 3). Till the top 6 inches of soil in the planting location with a tiller to loosen it.

    • 4). Dig a hole that is deep enough to accommodate the root ball of the hybrid Salix tree. Insert the roots into the hole so that the top of the roots sit even with the surface of the soil. Fill in the hole with soil and pack it down firmly with your hands.

    • 5). Plant additional Hybrid Salix trees in the same manner, spacing each tree at least 5 to 8 feet apart.

    • 6). Spread a 3- to 4-inch layer of mulch around the base of the Hybrid Salix to help retain soil moisture.

    • 7). Water the soil around the Hybrid Salix for 20 to 30 minutes once per week. During periods of drought or high heat, increase watering if the top of the soil feels dry to the touch.
