How to Uninstall Driver Software on Windows XP
- 1). Log in to the computer using the user name and password of an administrator account on the Windows XP computer. Click the "Start" button on the Windows taskbar, and click "Control Panel" in the menu that appears.
- 2). Click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon in the "Control Panel" window. Scroll down the list of programs displayed in the "Add or Remove Programs" window.
- 3). Click once on the driver software located in the program list. Click the "Remove" or "Change/Remove" button. Click "OK" or "Yes" when prompted to confirm that you wish to remove the driver software.
- 4). Confirm all components you wish to uninstall, if prompted, by clicking the check boxes next to each component listed in the window that appears. Click the "OK" button.
- 5). Click the "Start" button on the Windows taskbar, click "Shutdown," click the drop-down box, click "Shutdown" and press the "Enter" key.
- 6). Uninstall the hardware associated with the uninstalled driver software to ensure that Windows XP does not reinstall the drivers on boot up.
- 7). Click the "Start" button, right-click "My Computer" and then click "Manage." Click "Device Manager" in the "Computer Management" window that appears. Click the "View" menu, and click "Show Hidden Devices" in the menu that appears.
- 8). Check the list of devices, and confirm that the driver for the device that was uninstalled does not appear in the list. If the device driver does appear in the list, right-click on the device and click "Uninstall" to complete the driver uninstall.
