How to Make an Animal Trap Out of Wood
- 1). Select a limb or log 3 to 5 inches in diameter and at least 6-feet long. Choose a location for constructing the wood trap in an area where squirrels are present.
- 2). Cut snare wire into 24-inch lengths with a pair of pliers with wire cutters. Cut a total of 10 24-inch lengths of wire.
- 3). Wrap the end of one 24-inch length of snare wire around the limb or log 1-foot off the ground. Wrap the wire so 2 inches of wire extends past the wood limb or branch.
- 4). Wrap the short end of the wire extending from the limb or log around the main length of wire three to four times. Position the wrapped wire so it is on the bottom of the log or limb when positioned against a tree.
- 5). Bend the wire around the side of the limb or log to the top side. Form a round snare 3 to 4 inches in diameter. Form a circle at the end of the wire, shape into a loop, and wrap the free end around the main wire three to four times to create a loop. Position the loop so it is 1/2 to 3/4 inches above the limb or log surface.
- 6). Create additional wire snares in the same manner and space them every 4 to 6 inches along the length of the limb or log.
- 7). Position the wood squirrel snare trap against a tree where squirrel activity has been observed. Lean one end of the log or limb against the tree and place the other end securely on the ground so the wood trap does not easily move.
