How to Remove the Alternator From a 2000 Mazda MPV
- 1). Lift the hood of your MPV and prop it open. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal. Disconnect the alternator from the battery. Position the cables away from the battery terminals to avoid an accidental charge.
- 2). Push the pulley's tension arm on the alternator. This will cause the alternator belt to loosen. Once loosened, slide it off around the pulley. Check the alternator belt for wear, as you may need to replace it if you install a new alternator.
- 3). Locate the mounting bolts that hold the alternator in place. On the 2000 Mazda MPV, the mounting bolts are on the bottom of the alternator. Use a socket or wrench to loosen the bolts by turning them counterclockwise.Slide the alternator off the brackets and remove it from the engine compartment.
