      In fall, select and clear a spot rich in organic material with well drained soil. These plants prefer bright and sunny areas, although they can take some shade. Plant bulbs in groups of five or more, leaving their tips just a tad below the soil surface.

      Leaves Die Back Down To The Bulb In Late Spring

      Late in spring, long leaves appear, then die back down to the bulb. It's important to leave the leaves untouched and allow the plant to die back naturally because the bulb gets energy from the sun striking the leaves.

      Clusters Of Flowers Bloom On Leafless Stalks

      Between mid-summer and fall the bulb produces clusters of fragrant four-inch long trumpet shaped flowers ranging from pinkish-white to rose-red. Clusters of up to twelve blossoms are supported on stalks growing 10 to 18 inches in length. When the plant is in flower, remove the stalks as soon as flowers begin to wilt; if the flowers are left to go to seed, the bulb may not bloom the following year.
