Riding the Surf in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is home to some of the best surfing spots in the world and there is no reason you should not know of all of them to take your pick. You have various kinds ranging from something for the beginners to large surfs for the pros. Here are some of the best places you can head out to.

If you are in the Aguadillo area then you should head to the Gas Chambers area that is based at the Crash Boat Beach. It has some of the biggest surfs that come on this side of the northwest swells and also has some of the best tubes. This is one spot where the best of Puerto Rican surfers come to hone in their skills. You need to know the water and its temperament really well to master the waves here. Another great place you can head to is the Tres Palmas which are best known for its massive wave breaks. It has a right-sided reef break that then opens out in an nerve testing open face walled waves. This is again for extreme surfers who love to challenge themselves on rogue waves.

There is also the wilderness beach which goes from two to twenty feet in height as far as its waves go. It gives you a glimpse of the famous waves of the Oahu's Banzai Pipeline. The best way to get the most of this surf is to paddle as deep into the tide as you can. This will help you steer clear of the sea urchin plastered reef that is just under the surface there.

When you are at Maria's you will find that the best waves come from the northwest and always at low at low tide. Being an expert is not necessary here and many surfers come here to practices their moves. The only negatives are the massive crowds and the reefs filled with sea urchins. In the famous town of Isabella is the right-breaking tube of Playa de Jobos. This is best suited for those beginning their sojourn with surfing. There are also several restaurants in the vicinity that you can visit.

Visit the Spanish wall beach or the Domes as the locals call it. It has several green domes of a nuclear plant long abandoned and hence the name. Waves here are hollow and go up to eight feet. Chatarra is the extreme kamikaze styled surfers. Speed is the key to riding these waves and you can easily get sucked into the water.
