What Does a Person With Bipolar Act Like?
- A person with bipolar disorder experiences extreme emotions, which are called "mood episodes." Overly happy and excited moods are referred to as manic episodes, while intensely hopeless and depressed moods are known as depressive episodes.
- A person experiencing a manic episode may talk very quickly, get distracted easily, appear restless and behave impulsively.
- A person experiencing a depressive episode may appear restless or irritable and may have difficulty concentrating, recalling information or making decisions.
- Consequences of untreated bipolar disorder can include problems at school or work, damaged relationships and self-harm or suicide.
- If you or someone you know is considering self-harm or suicide, get help immediately. Call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
