Scholarships for Married College Students
- Most married scholarship applicants are asked to provide the same basic information regardless of who is awarding the funds. Applicants should have a letter of request, letter of recommendation, official university transcript, marriage certificate, proof of income, resume and complete application on hand when applying for scholarships.
- Some scholarships may come with additional stipulations, such as a certain grade point average that a student must maintain. Qualification for other monies may include writing an essay or taking a qualifying exam. Some scholarships are for people enrolled in specific degree programs.
- The Ed Bacome Scholarship is available to all Ohio State University undergraduate students but offers preference to those who are married. At Idaho State, pre-law students who are married can apply for the Carl K. Davis scholarship. Virginia Commonwealth University offers the David D. Marshall Memorial Scholarship for fourth-year pharmacy students and the Elizabeth A. Thomas Health Sciences Scholarship is available to any married student in the health-related graduate program at Arkansas State University, regardless of need.
- Spouses of active military personnel are also eligible for scholarships. Those who are married to someone in active duty can register at ThanksUSA for scholarships. The organization has 1,000 scholarships available each year in increments between $1,000 and $5,000, as of 2011. Army Emergency Relief is another group that offers up to $2,500 in scholarships to the spouses of Army personnel.
