The largest cities in Florida -- Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa -- have their own characters, and appeal to different groups of people. Jacksonville is popular among young professionals and graduates seeking ample job opportunities as well as young families who prefer the suburbs with easy access to the city's amenities. Families are drawn to Tampa with its large naturally protected harbor. Tampa and Miami also attract large numbers of young people seeking 24-hour entertainment.

    Southwest Coast

    • The southwest coast includes areas such as Fort Myers and Naples down to Everglades City. These areas are popular with wealthy professionals due to the upscale shopping and dining available, and with families who are drawn to the area's beaches and good schools. However, there are also many retirees in this area, attracted by the laid-back atmosphere.

    Small Cities

    • Three locations in Florida featured in CNN Money's 2010 list of the best small cities to live in the United States. The first was Coconut Creek, located northwest of Fort Lauderdale. Despite having relatively high unemployment, the city's dedication to environmentalism and aesthetic qualities still make it desirable. In the same area is Coral Springs, also featured on the list and boasting a 182-acre Sportsplex. Wellington is the third city, an affluent suburb in Palm Beach County. The city is known for its polo playing, but it also boasts good schools and a low crime rate, which makes it attractive to families.

    College Towns

    • College towns such as Tallahassee and Gainesville benefit from a lively atmosphere and a wide variety of cultural events organized through the universities and other arts centers. Tallahassee is the state capital and attracts a large number of young professionals because of the employment opportunities there. Gainesville also attracts younger people and benefits from a flourishing arts scene and a variety of night-life venues.
